Ethiopian Gunmen Kill 7 Kenyans As Insecurity Surge In Marsabit

A night of terror unfolded in Marsabit County when gunmen believed to be from a neighboring country launched a brutal ambush, killing seven.

The attack happened late last night on the Eledimtu-Forole Road, just a few kilometres from the Ethiopian border.

Around 9:00 p.m., a lorry was attacked by an armed group dressed in jungle attire.

According to a police report filed at the Forolle Police Station, the attackers opened fire on the vehicle randomly.

Following the shooting, the attackers set fire to the truck, rendering it and some of its occupants unrecognizable.

The attack claimed the lives of seven people, including two minors.

A sixth victim was later discovered dead in a nearby thicket from gunshot wounds.

Ibrahim Jalla, the driver of the lorry, and six other passengers are still missing.

Talaso Wato, a 16-year-old survivor from Dukana, reported the incident to the Forole Police Station.

According to Wato, who escaped the attack and fled to Forole, one other passenger was discovered this morning with a fractured limb. Another person with burn wounds approached Forole, seeking assistance.

Local leaders have urged Cabinet Secretary for Interior Kithure Kindiki to increase security operations in the volatile region.

Former Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani, in a post, requested that more security personnel be deployed to protect residents in the area.

“We appeal to CS Interior to deploy more security personnel to protect this border community,” Yatani said on his official social media accounts.

The attack comes as Kenya’s Defence Forces continue to deploy to neighbouring countries to counter attacks on its borders.
