MEDIOCRITY? Hussein Mohamed Defends Ruto For ‘Relaunching’ Uhuru Projects

Hussein Mohamed, State House spokesperson, clarified on Saturday that President William Ruto was relaunching Jubilee-era projects.

Kenyans have sharply criticized the president, claiming that the majority of the projects he has commissioned were already launched by his predecessor, Uhuru Kenyatta.

However, Hussein responded by defending the president, claiming that he was only reviving stalled Uhuru-era projects.

He stated that the president has a responsibility to ensure that all projects being implemented by the Kenyan government are on track.

“It’s a mark of responsibility for a President to ensure that all feasible projects, including those that stalled before his election, are completed,” Hussein said.

“This commitment is actually part of the pledges President William Ruto made in the Kenya Kwanza manifesto, the very document that got him elected.”

Hussein stated that during Ruto’s development tours around the country, the President will continue to implement the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.

This, he said, includes starting new projects, inspecting existing ones, and, if necessary, restarting and completing those that had stalled prior to his election.

Hussein stated that the projects will benefit Kenyans and are consistent with the President’s campaign promises.

President Ruto has launched several projects during his developmental tours of the Coast, Mount Kenya, and Western regions since the beginning of the month.

However, there have been concerns that the projects were initiated during the Jubilee administration, in which he served as Deputy President.

President Ruto will begin his development tour of Western Kenya just a few days after returning from a three-day trip to Gusiiland.

On August 7, Ruto launched the Kanyuambora Irrigation Project in the Mbeere North Constituency, Embu County.

However, the launch sparked speculation on social media, with some Kenyans claiming that Uhuru launched the project in 2021.

According to the National Irrigation Authority, the project stalled in February 2022 due to the contractor’s failure to perform.

When the Kenya Kwanza government took office, it terminated the contract in accordance with legal provisions.

The project was re-procured by the Kenya Kwanza Government.
