Justice Mugambi Finds Acting IG Masengeli Guilty Of Contempt Of Court
The High Court found Acting Police Inspector Gilbert Masengeli guilty of violating court orders.
Justice Lawrence Mugambi stated that impunity and open defiance are not acceptable, and those who are hellbent will not find refuge.
Masengeli was ordered to appear in court on Monday to explain the events surrounding the disappearance of three people in Kitengela.
They disappeared on August 19. Several summonses have been issued by the court, but Masengeli has ignored them all.

On Monday, he sent DIG Kenya Police Service Eliud Lagat to represent him, claiming he was in Wajir for security reasons.
However, Mugambi stated in his brief ruling that the IG has held the court hostage, and it is no longer possible to determine what happened to the petitioners.

“Masengeli is guilty of contempt and the court ought to punish him accordingly,” said the Judge.
At the same time, the Judge summoned Lazarus Opicho, the commandant of the SGB/VIP unit, to explain why he called his bodyguard and driver to find out where he was.
“We need to know the reasons for such an inquiry,” said the judge.
The judge reserved both the sentence and Opicho’s explanation for Friday.
