DRAMA As Aisha Jumwa, Mungaro Supporters Clash Over Cultural Event Venue
On Monday, former Gender Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa’s supporters clashed with those of Kilifi Governor Gideon Mungaro.
The clash erupted after Aisha Jumwa stormed the popular Chenda Chenda Festival, disrupting the entire agenda.
The Chenda Chenda festival is a cultural event where tribes gather to showcase their traditions.
The event organizers had already booked the venue and set up the dais; however, Jumwa set up a parallel dais opposite the festival and took advantage of the opportunity to hijack high-profile visitors who were streaming in.

Temperatures dropped after Trade and Industry Cabinet Secretary CS Salim Mvurya arrived. At this point, Aisha Jumwa attempted to persuade him to join her at the dias.
The CS refused, and the entire situation escalated. According to reports, the brawl was so intense that they had to dismantle the public address system.
The Kilifi Governor responded to the brawl by expressing his disappointment with the event’s trajectory.

He claimed that the chaos was politically motivated and urged the former CS to wait until 2027 when the opportunity to run would present itself.
“Whoever you are and whatever position you hold or used to hold in government doesn’t matter, let us respect each other and wait for the ballot in 2027.” Governor Mungaro said.
Governor Mungaro issued a stern warning to any politician seeking to undermine his leadership.
Other coastal leaders at the festival accused Aisha Jumwa of neglecting the community while she was Cabinet Secretary, but she wants to be recognized after being removed from the cabinet.
Aisha Jumwa and Gideon Mungaro competed in the 2022 general elections. They were both running for the Kilifi Governor’s seat.
The latter would be victorious. The governor received 143,773 votes to Jumwa’s 65,893.
Despite losing the gubernatorial race, Jumwa was later appointed cabinet secretary in President William Ruto’s inaugural cabinet.
She was, however, expelled when the Head of State purged his government following widespread anti-government protests.
