SCHOOL FIRES: Another School In Machakos Engulfed In Inferno, Destroys Property of Unknown Value

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the recent surge in school fires across the country.

Meanwhile, another fire broke out at Father Makewa Boys High School in Machakos County on Tuesday morning, destroying a dormitory at the educational facility.

According to reports, the fire broke out around 6 a.m., while the students were attending early morning classes.

A preacher who lives next to the school confirmed to the press that no students were injured because they were all attending their respective classes.

Firefighters from the Machakos County Government were immediately dispatched to the scene and collaborated to put out the fire before it could spread to other areas.

While commenting on the incident, Yatta Member of Parliament Robert Ngui expressed regret and assured the school of his support.

“I extend my heartfelt sympathies to the Fr. Makewa Secondary School community in Makutano, Ikombe Ward, following the devastating fire that destroyed the boys’ dormitory,” Ngui commented.

“I fully understand the emotional toll and disruption this has caused for students, parents, and staff. This is a challenging time, and I stand with you, offering my unwavering support.”

The lawmaker went on to urge students to come forward and express their concerns in order to prevent similar incidents from occurring.

The fire tragedy at Makewa School adds to a string of fires reported at various schools across the country in the past week.

Instructively, the Father Makewa fire occurred just hours after another similar incident was reported at Yemit Boys High School in Elgeyo Marakwet.

The fire broke out around 6.30 a.m. on Monday, September 9, destroying one of the dormitories while the students were attending evening classes.

Viral videos obtained by AfricasNow showed the dormitory completely engulfed in smoke, even as students and a section of the locals stepped up their efforts to put out the fire.
