Plane Veers off Runway In Migori, All 11 On Board Unharmed

A plane carrying ten passengers and one crew member veered off the Lichota Airstrip in Migori as it took off.

Witnesses at the scene reported that the plane was approaching the end of the runway when it veered off, resulting in a cloud of billowing smoke. Fortunately, no fatalities or injuries were reported.

“I was in my compound next to the airstrip when I saw the plane trying to take off from the runway. It lost control and stalled at the end of the runaway,” One of the witnesses, Moses Ywera, stated.

Witnesses also stated that their attempts to jump in and rescue the passengers were thwarted by Airstrip officials who rushed to the scene.

Photos seen by AfricasNow showed that a fire engine and an ambulance from the Migori County Government arrived at the airstrip right away.

The crash occurred during takeoff on Monday, September 16, around 12.30 p.m.

Z.Boskovic Air Charters owns the aircraft, which is registered 5Y-ZBW.

In a statement, Z. Boskovic Air Charters stated that the company had contacted relevant authorities, who had taken over investigations.

“We have engaged the relevant authorities to support the investigation of the incident and are closely investigating the incident.”

By the time of publication, the cause of the crash had not been revealed.
