School Issues Statement After Student Dies From Septic Tank Fall

On Monday afternoon, a somber mood descended on the Friends School Kamusinga fraternity following the death of a student who fell into a septic tank.

While confirming the student’s death, the chairperson of the institution’s Board of Management revealed that the learner died after falling into a septic tank inside the school.

The BOM chairperson revealed that he received a phone call from the school principal informing him of the tragic incident.

Following the incident, the student was transported to Kimilili Sub-County Hospital after being rescued from the tank. He was later referred to the Life Care Hospital.

However, efforts to save the learner’s life failed when he died while receiving treatment.

“We convened an executive Board of Management meeting at 8.00 am on September 16,” detailed the chairperson.

Officers from the Ministries of Education and Interior paid a visit to the institution several hours after the incident occurred. The law enforcement officers then launched an investigation into the student’s death.

“The executive team joined the staff in addressing the students, meanwhile, there is relative calm in the school,” the BOM leader revealed.

“As a board, we have resolved that safety and security measures be addressed in school. We look forward to having a full school Board of Management soon,” reiterated the school representative.

The latest incident adds to the list of students and pupils who have died in mysterious circumstances in the last week.

In a recent tragedy on September 13, three students and three other students were killed when a Probox car hit them while they were crossing a road in Kitui County.

According to a police report, after realizing what he had done, the driver fled the scene before eventually surrendering to a police station.
