‘If You Impeach Gachagua, We Impeach Ruto’ – Senator Declares Daring MPs
Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo, who is affiliated with the Wiper Party, spoke out on Monday about the ongoing supremacy battle in Mount Kenya between Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Interior CS Kithure Kindiki.
Speaking on Citizen TV on Tuesday, Maanzo stated that it would only be appropriate to impeach the president whenever a motion against the Deputy President is presented.
“If there is an impeachment motion of the deputy president, then we will also have an impeachment motion against the president because they are one ticket and one people. There is nothing wrong the Honourable Gachagua has done,” Maanzo said.
When asked why he bundled the two together, the senator cited the concurrent impeachment process.

“If there is going to be an impeachment motion, we have to tie them together. While we process one, we process another and run them concurrently in both the Senate and the National Assembly.”
He went on to say that if that happens, whatever tool is being used to frustrate DP Gachagua will be ineffective because he believes the deputy president has not done anything that would justify the impeachment motion.
Extending his argument for why DP Gachagua is not wrong, the senator claimed that the president had repeatedly violated the Constitution.
Maanzo also defended claims that DP Gachagua favoured the mountain region over addressing national issues.
He maintains that it would be absurd to ignore the needs of those he once represented in the National Assembly.
“Charity begins at home. He was a Member of Parliament in Nyeri. You cannot say you are the deputy president and so you are not going to address issues of your people, you are going to Rift Valley or Ukambani and address other people’s issues there,” Maanzo posed.
To further defend himself, the deputy stated that the issues he was addressing regarding tea, coffee, and macadamia farmers affected not only the Mount Kenya region but also other regions such as Kericho and that the MPS in those regions have refused to resolve them.
Maanzo went on to say that the plot to impeach the deputy president was not new and began as soon as the DP received the ticket to run alongside Ruto.

He then challenged the MPs to plan the impeachment and warned them that if this happened, the Senate would also file an impeachment motion against the president.
This sentiment was echoed by Gathoni Wamuchomba, who also participated in the panel interview.
Wamuchomba confirmed that there was disagreement among the Mount Kenya MPs about who should run alongside Ruto.
They had to vote three times to decide whether Rigathi Gachagua should run despite losing twice to Kithure Kindiki.
