On Wednesday, detectives from Kasarani Police Station arrested two Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officers in connection with the brutal murder of 26-year-old Mercy Rufani.
The two people in custody at the police station were apprehended after an intense manhunt that lasted several weeks following the murder in September of this year.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspects, both military officers stationed in Embakasi, were the victim’s last known contact before she died.
The manhunt began after the victim’s body was discovered in the Mwiki area along the Eastern Bypass, on Nairobi’s outskirts.

Preliminary investigations revealed that on September 28, the victim was reported missing from her parents’ home in Pipeline, Embakasi.
As a result, family members of the victim reported the incident to the police, who launched an investigation to determine the victim’s location.
A thorough search for the victim became a heartbreaking saga, culminating in the discovery of her lifeless body, partially undressed.
The lifeless body had bruises on the thighs, lower back, and left ankle, indicating that the victim had been tortured and harmed before her death.
Detectives discovered a black blouse, a blanket, and a mobile phone, which they used to conduct additional investigations.
It was also established that on that fateful night, one of the two suspects picked up the victim in a car and drove her to his home in Komarock, Nairobi.

While in the parking lot, the two had a misunderstanding, which led to a confrontation in which the suspect assaulted the victim, killing her.
According to reports, the first suspect requested assistance from his accomplice in disposing of the body.

The duo is currently detained at Kasarani Police Station and will be arraigned on Thursday, October 24.
