KDF Officer Sentenced For Defiling 16-Year-Old Girl In Mombasa
A Mombasa court convicted a man of defiling a 16-year-old girl in Likoni.
George Odhiambo Owino, a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer stationed at Mtongwe Naval Base, was accused of defiling the girl on multiple occasions between July 3 and November 16, 2020.
The victim testified that she was in Form Two when her neighbour, Owino, seduced her and promised her that if she agreed to be his girlfriend, he would pay her school fees and other expenses.
She told the court that Owino went to their house and they had sex on her mother’s bed while she was at work and her siblings were outside playing.
“She stated that they had sex four times in their home and later discovered that she was pregnant around August 2020,” court papers read.

The court heard that he used to send her younger children to their aunt and spend time alone with the 16-year-old girl in the house before having sex with her.
He accepted responsibility for the pregnancy, and the student gave birth in April 2021.
While promising to care for the victim, Owino only sent Ksh.10,000 and then stopped, the court heard. In his defence, Owino stated that the girl had a large body.
“She told him that she had applied for an ID but it had not come out yet,” the case files say.
“He stated that the complainant used to do casual work for people and she used to ask him for help and he would offer her food.”

The girl would also pay him a visit in the barracks, cook for him, and sleep there.
“They got used to each other and the complainant would go to his house and he asked her for a relationship,” read the documents.
“It was his defence that he didn’t know she was under 18 years old and he withdrew from the relationship.”
The man was found guilty of defilement, contrary to Section 8(1) read with Section 8(4) of the Sexual Offences Act of 2006, and of committing an indecent act with a child, contrary to Section 11(1) of the Sexual Offences Act.
