Kenyan Shot In The United States, CCTV Reveals Heinous Act While Police Condemned

Police in Minneapolis, Minnesota, have arrested a white man a week after he shot and injured a Kenyan neighbor in an incident suspected of racism and hatred.

Davis Moturi was pruning a tree outside his compound when his neighbour, John Sawchak, shot him in the neck in an attempted murder.

In videos circulating online, Moturi can be seen dropping to the ground, with his still-running power saw dropping by his side.

Moturi sustained gunshot wounds to the neck, resulting in a fractured spine, two broken ribs, and a concussion.

Minneapolis police have faced widespread criticism for taking more than a week to arrest the suspect and failing to act when Moturi reported Sawchak to police 20 times for harassment prior to the shooting.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara admitted that the police failed Moturi while outlining the steps taken to apprehend the suspect, who has since been charged with attempted murder and racism.

“The Minneapolis police somehow did not act urgently enough to prevent that individual from being shot,” O’Hara said as quoted by CNN.

There was an hours-long standoff between police and the suspect, who refused to surrender as officers camped outside his home.

Sawchak is said to suffer from mental illness, but neighbours describe him as racist, armed, and dangerous.

Moturi, who spoke from his hospital bed while recovering, claimed that police did nothing despite his repeated harassment and racist attacks from his neighbour.

“I don’t call the police for fun. I call because I want my family to be safe. It’s very sad that it had to come to this. I’m looking forward to recovering safely and securely in the comfort of my home,” Moturi said.

Following the killing of George Floyd by a police officer in Minnesota, which sparked worldwide condemnation, police are said to have decided to take a slower approach to such incidents.

Following Floyd’s death, protests broke out in several states across the United States.
