EMBARASSING! Machakos Governor Incorrectly Reads The Oath During Senate Grilling

Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti was put on the spot while testifying before a Senate committee after reading the incorrect oath.

When the governor appeared before the Senate Public Accounts Committee on Tuesday, October 29, the chairperson had to make her retake the oath because she had mispronounced it.

“Governor, which oath did you read? Are you reading an oath in your mind or the oath that is presented to you? I don’t think else (the word) appears,” the committee chairperson reprimanded.

The Governor had read the oath, “I, Wavinya Ndeti, do solemnly swear that the evidence that I shall give before this committee in respect to the matter before the committee shall be the truth, the whole truth, nothing else but the truth so help me God.”

Following the error, the governor had to re-read the oath with the assistance of leaders present after the chairperson directed her to do so without using the word ‘else’.

“I, Wavinya Ndeti, do solemnly swear that the evidence that I shall give before this committee in respect to the matter before the committee shall be the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help me God,” she rectified.

Wavinya Ndeti was joined by her deputy, Francis Mwangangi, and members of the Machakos County Executive Team.

The Governor and county management appeared before the Senate Public Accounts Committee to be interrogated on the report of the Auditor General for the financial year 2022/23.

“Accountability is a key aspect of democracy and good governance and I applaud the Senate of Kenya for dutifully conducting its mandate to ensure we continue strengthening our institutions,” Ndeti wrote on her official Facebook page on Tuesday.
