‘Useless As Chicken Eggs!’ – Oscar Sudi Slams Cherargei, Kirwa

On Wednesday, Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi slammed Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei and former Agriculture Minister Kipruto Arap Kirwa, describing them as political twins who rely solely on complex English to support their political views.

Sudi took to his X page and dismissed their opinions as useless, claiming that they were only coated with polished words.

“In Kenyan politics, Kipruto arap Kirwa and Samson Cherargei, often seen as political twins, spewing complex English to intrigue and confound. Yet, beneath the polished words, they’re as useless as chicken eggs. Very useless! Very useless!” Sudi wrote.

Cherargei has faced criticism from Kenyans and political leaders alike for proposing to increase the presidential term limit from five to seven years.

The Nandi Senator is a strong supporter and ally of President William Ruto.

Even President Ruto, who stands to benefit the most if the bill passes, has distanced himself from the deal.

He urged Members of Parliament to oppose any attempts to increase term limits for personal or political gain.

The UDA party also issued a statement opposing the deal earlier this month through its Secretary General Hassan Omar, claiming that it violates Kenya’s democratic ideals and jeopardizes democratic gains made thus far.

“This cynical, profoundly misguided Bill contravenes the long-held aspiration of the Kenyan people to retire undemocratic entrenchment of unaccountable political monopolies,” Hassan stated.

Kimani Ichung’wah, the majority leader of the National Assembly and a Kikuyu MP, also spoke up during the debate, calling the bill’s premise “dead on arrival.”

On Monday, the opposition party, ODM, also rejected the bill.

“The position of the ODM party is that we do not support any proposals to amend our Constitution to extend any elected leader’s term in office,” read ODM’s statement.

The bill, which ended public participation on Saturday, seeks to increase the terms of all electoral government positions from five to seven years, benefiting governors, MPs, and MCAs.

It also proposed the creation of a new prime minister’s office, among other changes.

“The Bill seeks to amend Article 151 by inserting a new section, 151A, which proposes to create the office of the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister shall be the leader of the largest party or coalition of parties in Parliament,” reads the bill.

Sudi also chastised Kipruto Arap Kirwa for frequently switching between supporting and criticizing the Kenya Kwanza Government.

Kirwa is a former agriculture minister under Kibaki and a former UDA national vice chair who moved to Azimio in 2022.
