Moses Kuria Laughs At Gachagua Calling Him ‘Foolish Businessman’

Moses Kuria, Senior Economic Advisor, has criticized former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for setting himself up by engaging in abrasive politics while serving as the country’s second-in-command.

Kuria accused Gachagua of orchestrating a retrogressive narrative aimed at isolating the Mt Kenya region from the rest of the country.

The government advisor spoke after Deputy President Kithure Kindiki was sworn in at Nairobi’s Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).

The former Public Service Cabinet Secretary emphasised that, despite its population, the Mt Kenya region could not succeed on its own without the assistance of other regions.

He insists that Mt Kenya residents are primarily traders and thus heavily reliant on the rest of Kenyans to purchase their products.

“Anyone thinking that they can mobilize their politics around ethnicity, around one region. What does it benefit you to win the whole world and lose yourself? It is only a foolish businessman who fights his customers,” Kuria cryptically commented while referencing Gachagua.

“We came very close to losing it to the politics of negativity. The message is clear to everybody, your region cannot be better than the rest of the nation. This backward, primitive narrative has been overtaken by events,” he added.

While speaking to journalists, Moses Kuria emphasized the importance of unity and collective effort in moving the country forward.

The former CS stated that Gachagua’s impeachment would serve as a lesson for Kenyans who believed their region was superior to the rest of the country.

Kuria went on to accuse Gachagua of orchestrating his dismissal from the cabinet in July this year.

According to the government advisor, Gachagua’s attempt to oppose President Ruto’s administration and policies prompted the Head of State to reshuffle the entire cabinet.

“If it is to fight, why don’t you pick up a fight that you know you can win?” quipped Kuria in a dig at former DP.

“When you just fight like that, we go fight, and we as a people lose. That is why people like me are no longer in the cabinet because someone picked a fight.”

Kuria’s words came shortly after Kithure Kindiki was sworn in as deputy president to replace Gachagua, who had been impeached by both houses of the National Assembly.

Kindiki’s swearing-in ceremony was originally scheduled for October 19 but was postponed after Gachagua’s legal team obtained conservatory orders.

The court had halted the former Interior CS’s swearing-in ceremony, which was scheduled to take place at Uhuru Gardens.

The High Courts of Nairobi and Kerugoya issued orders preventing Kindiki’s appointment until the former deputy president’s petition was heard and decided.

However, following approximately two weeks of court battles, the High Court in Nairobi granted the conservatory orders on Thursday, October 31, paving the way for Kindiki’s swearing-in.
