On Wednesday, November 27, the National Assembly accepted Gerald Nyaoma Arita’s appointment as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Kenya, following his nomination by President William Ruto.

Nyaoma’s acceptance came after the National Assembly Finance Committee head, Kuria Kimani, filed a special motion from a joint Parliamentary Committee of the Senate and National Assembly that nominated him for the position following the completion of interviews.

“Taking into consideration the findings of the Joint Committee of the National Assembly Departmental Committee on Finance and National Planning and the Senate Standing Committee on Finance and Budget in its Report on the vetting of a nominee for appointment as the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Kenya, this House approves the appointment of Mr. Gerald Nyaoma Arita as the Second Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Kenya,” read part of the motion by Kuria.

Members of the National Assembly praised Nyaoma as a seasoned and devoted government servant who earned the job.

Suba South MP Omondi Caroli praised Nyaoma as a highly seasoned professional with an extensive understanding of the banking sector and urged his colleagues to ratify his nomination.

“If you look at his academic records, he had a first-class degree at the University of Nairobi, there are very few people who can post such records. He has deep domain knowledge of central banking in this country.
