Mining Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho has stated that he is willing to support President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza government, despite Kenyans’ unhappiness.
In response to critics who advised him against joining the Kenya Kwanza government, Joho stated that unifying Kenyans is more essential than individualism.
According to Joho, he will remain with President Ruto till the end.
“Kuna watu walikuwa wananiambia nikiingia huko nitazama. Kama nikuzama, wacha nizame nikiwa hapo ndani. (There are those who warned me that I would perish if I joined the government. Let me tell them, if it (government) goes down, I will go down with it,” Joho asserted.

Speaking in Tharaka Nithi on Friday, November 29, the CS stated that working with the government has given him the opportunity to work for Kenyans and bring about change that he could not do when he was in opposition.
“If I were outside (opposition), I would be complaining, but now I can bring you development because I joined the government,” the CS asserted.
“From here, I will go to the lake region and commission more projects because I am on the inside (government).”

Joho, on the other hand, confessed that it was difficult for him to join the cabinet as an opposition member, especially since he was always opposing President Ruto.
“You gave President Ruto a chance, and I was not there. I was on the opposition side, and in fact, I was really criticising the government,” Joho revealed.
“It was not easy making that decision to join the government, but I chose to serve my country.”
The CS underlined that now is not the time to criticize, but rather to focus on strengthening Kenya.

Joho is one of the beneficiaries of President Ruto’s pact with opposition leader Raila Odinga, which resulted in the appointment of key Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) officials to the Cabinet in order to build a broad-based administration.
Ruto created the broad-based administration in June, following weeks of protests by Generation Z against the proposed Finance Bill 2024.
