‘Register Your Vehicles Or Face The Law!’ – NTSA Tells Dealers Giving 14 Days Ultimatum

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has asked all motor vehicle dealers and showroom operators to register their vehicles on the NTSA portal within 14 days.

On Friday, December 7, NTSA Director General George Njao issued a warning that failing to comply with the order will result in the revocation of the dealer’s license.

As a result, Njao revealed that the Authority will confiscate all vehicles that were not registered on the NTSA portal once the 14-day period expires.

Njao stated that the directives were based on a recent license validation exercise undertaken by NTSA officials and the Directorate of Immigration Department.

According to Njao, the Authority discovered that multiple unregistered vehicles were kept by dealers around the country.

“Following the completion of the initiative, the Authority notes that several motor vehicle dealers are holding unregistered motor vehicles in their premises (showrooms and yards), contrary to the requirements of the Traffic Act, Cap 403,” Njao stated.

The Authority also asked law enforcement authorities to confiscate automobiles that are currently running without legal driver’s licenses or utilizing Kenya Dealer Number Plates, which is against the law.

The NTSA’s instruction came after a multi-agency team concluded an online license validation exercise.

On October 17, the Authority announced that the validation exercise would begin on November 11 and terminate on November 22.

In the notice, the NTSA advised motor vehicle owners to follow the directive under Section 23(1) of the Traffic Act.

According to the Authority, all motorists were supposed to submit license details by November 6.

“Through this public notice, the Authority informs all tow truck owners, motor vehicle dealers, both new and secondhand, and repairers of motor vehicles of a multi-agency license revalidation exercise scheduled from November 11 and November 22, 2024,” read part of the NTSA notice.

“All operators are therefore directed to complete and submit an online license revalidation form available on the NTSA Website (www.ntsa.go.ke) on or before Wednesday, November 6, 2024,” NTSA added.

The current statement comes against the backdrop of Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo’s instruction to crack down on all unroadworthy automobiles.

On Wednesday, December 4, Omollo addressed the press and instructed the National Police Service to collaborate with NTSA authorities to guarantee compliance with traffic rules.
