Nairobi Hospital Responds To KMPDU’s ‘Harassment And Mistreatment’ Accusations
The Nairobi Hospital has denied accusations of a planned walkout by its doctors affiliated with the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists, and Dentists Union (KMPDU).
On Tuesday, the hospital’s Acting CEO, Felix Osano, stated that its unionized doctors had not threatened to strike and that medical services would continue as usual.
“We affirm that contrary to the allegations, no strike notice has been issued by the hospital’s doctors,” read the statement.
“The hospital remains fully operational and continues to provide quality healthcare services to all patients without disruption. Our dedicated team of professionals are unwavering in their commitment to delivering exceptional care.”

Regarding reports that the institution’s doctors were abused, harassed, and in fear of losing their jobs, Mr. Osano stated that management was engaging its staff to ensure flawless service delivery.
He so asked the public to disregard misleading information, assuring them of the medical officers’ commitment to providing quality services.
“We maintain an open and constructive dialogue with our medical staff and continue to prioritize their needs to ensure a harmonious working environment,” he stated.
“We urge the public, our partners and stakeholders to disregard any misleading information intended to cause unnecessary alarm. The Nairobi Hospital remains focused on offering world-class healthcare to the community.”
This comes after KMPDU Secretary General Dr. Davji Atellah previously expressed worries about the welfare of doctors in private institutions.

Atellah claimed that medics have had to retire due to bad working conditions, with others working under duress for fear of being victimised.
“The Nairobi Hospital management has continued to harass and mistreat our members, reduce their medical cover in the name of financial constraints as stories of financial mismanagement spread along the corridors,” said Dr. Atellah.

The union threatened to mobilize its members to lay off in seven days if management did not meet its demands.
KMPDU urged members of the Kenya Hospital Association, Admitting Staff Association, Nairobi Hospital staff, and other government institutions to unite and “save the facility of choice from imminent closure and collapse.”
They seek the resignation of the entire board of directors, including Chairperson Chris Bichage and the interim CEO.
