Police Officer Charged For Transporting Charcoal In Nakuru
A police officer apprehended on Wednesday on the Nakuru-Mogotio Road in Nakuru County while transporting charcoal in a Land Cruiser has been charged.
Kenya Forest Service personnel said they received information about a car loaded with bags of charcoal going towards Nakuru, but when they tried to intercept it, the driver refused to stop.
“They gave chase to the said motor vehicle up to Naivasha and then back to Nakuru Town where he had called for reinforcement and they managed to intercept it at the Safaricom roundabout,” reads a report filed at the Nakuru Police Station.
Benjamin Wasike, the driver and Tiaty West’s Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer (SCCIO) was detained and disarmed with a revolver loaded with 13 rounds of ammo.

The officers also found 20 bags of charcoal in the car.
According to police, Wasike was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and unauthorised movement of charcoal.
The officer was released on a monetary bond of Ksh.100,000, and the case will be heard on December 23.
