Siaya Women Leading County Seeking Family Planning, Machakos For Men
According to new research by the Communications Authority, Siaya County has the greatest proportion of women who use ICT services to get family planning information.
Siaya County led with 40.7%, followed by Kericho (40%) and Narok (39.2%). Nyandarua (39%) and Trans-Nzoia (38.3%) were placed fourth and fifth, respectively.
In contrast, Mandera had the lowest access to family planning information among females, at 2.3%, followed by Wajir (18.6%), Turkana (35.4%), and Lamu (46.5%).
In the men’s category, Machakos County dominated with 96.5 percent, followed by Kericho with 93% and Kirinyaga at 92.1%.

Mandera County had the lowest proportion of males (15.5%) who accessed family planning information via ICT services, followed by Wajir and Turkana counties with 18.6 and 35.4%, respectively.
In general, men had greater access to family planning information than women.

13 counties reported more females than males obtaining family planning information via mobile phones. These are: Kericho, Kakamega, Uasin Gichu, Turkana, Mombasa, and Garissa.
Others are Marsabit, Isiolo, Makueni, Nyeri, Siaya, Kisumu, and Kisii.
“Males and females within the age group 25-34 years reported the highest access to family planning information through television, mobile phone messaging, social media platforms and the Internet,” the report read in part.
“Notably, access to family planning information by both rural and urban residents was mainly through radio, with rural population reporting higher access through radio as compared to urban population.”
