Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has requested that the government withdraw a car and an intelligence officer who were following him.

According to Gachagua, the officer followed him to Kalawa Ward in Mbooni Constituency, Makueni County, on Wednesday. He traveled approximately 200 kilometers from Nairobi to attend a burial ceremony.

Gachagua added in a statement that the officer, whose image he exposed, and the automobile may be used to undertake “some useful work to enhance our security as a nation.”

He added, “It was pointless to waste fuel and man hours having him follow us all the way from Nairobi to Makueni yesterday.”

Gachagua claimed that the officer was being stationed to monitor him. The suspected surveillance comes as the man who formerly claimed to be the King of the Mountain continues to take on the government.

“It would save public funds to detail your officers in Makueni to listen to what I am saying, record, and send to you instead of wasting public funds,” Gachagua stated.

In his social media post, Gachagua included the car that is supposedly following him as well as the officer’s face.

Gachagua has previously claimed that state security personnel are surveilling and intimidating him following his impeachment in October 2024.

Last month, he claimed that unmarked vehicles were following him, tracking his movements, and observing visits to his Nairobi and Nyeri homes.

At the time, he blamed the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), which denied all charges of investigating the former DP.

In November, Gachagua expressed concern for his safety, equating the alleged surveillance to techniques used during the ‘Special Branch’ era of former President Daniel Arap Moi’s government.

He has publicly asserted that if he suffers any injury, the state should be held responsible.

Gachagua has already announced that he will announce the political path of his followers in January of next year.

On Wednesday, Gachagua stated his openness to join a partnership with Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka ahead of the 2027 elections.

However, the former MP indicated that Kalonzo would need to quadruple the votes in the Ukambani voting bloc to secure support from the Mount Kenya region.

Gachagua stated that the existing two million votes in Ukambani were insufficient to catapult Musyoka to the State House.

“Leadership and politics is about numbers. You need to register as voters. I want to challenge you to know if you want us to be together in government, you have to register all your youth to vote.”
