Sombre Mood Engulfs Murang’a After 4 Children Killed In Fire

The villagers of Gakoigo in Murang’a County are in a somber mood after four children were killed in a fire.

First responders on the site discovered that the fire, which started on Thursday night, entirely destroyed the house while the children were sleeping.

According to witnesses, the fire was discovered by interested neighbours who saw billows of smoke coming from the property and rushed to investigate.

Attempts to save the children were useless, as the fire swiftly spread throughout the house, leaving the townspeople with no choice but to extinguish it.

After several hours of fighting the flames, the neighbours were able to put out the fire; however, the children had already been burned beyond recognition.

According to reports, three of the children who died were siblings, consisting of two boys and two girls.

Meanwhile, local police officers arrived on the site and removed the burnt bodies before bringing them to the morgue. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.

The event occurs a fortnight after three children perished in similar circumstances in Moburo, Kericho County after a strange fire destroyed their home.

The incident occurred on Saturday, December 7, when the kids were locked inside the house by one of the siblings who had gone to play with a friend.

Witnesses told the press that the parents of the three children were not at home at the time of the occurrence, but had left a phone to charge.

Villagers suspected that the fire was sparked by a charging phone that exploded, resulting in the destruction of the house, which was built with lumber and wood.

The neighbors extinguished the fire before Cheborgei Police Station officers arrived and transported the burnt bodies to Kapkatet Hospital Mortuary.
