[LIST] Gov’t Announces Blackspots In Nairobi, 20 Other Counties

As part of its efforts to decrease road carnage during the holiday season, the Ministry of Interior has identified many blackspots on important routes throughout the country.

A blackspot is a stretch of road where a high number of accidents involving fatalities or serious injuries have occurred in the past.

Nairobi’s blackspots included the Kasarani-GSU Stretch, Westlands to Kabete Road, and Mombasa Road between Airtel Headquarters and Cabanas.

Other blackspots in Nairobi include Jogoo Road near Maziwa Stage Footbridge, Waiyaki Way near Kangemi Fly-Over, Thika Road at Kenyatta University, and Ruai Bypass.

Langata Road near Carnivore Junction, Eastern Bypass near Transami Footbridge, and the footbridge at General Motors (GM) were all identified as accident-prone roads.

Blackspots in the Coastal region include the road portions at Tsavo-Maungu-Voi, Maungu-Tsavo East Gate, Mazeras Miritini, and Kilifi-Vipingo.

The Kibarani-Changamwe Makande route was also identified as a blackspot, along with the Kwale-Matuga Junction road portion, Maji ya Chumvi, Uwanja wa Ndege, Maungu Area, and Malindi at Jiwe Tanga.

In Central Kenya, the government designated the Kiganjo-Narumor, Kibirigwi-Sagana, Limuru-Uplands Section, and Thika Blue Post-Sagana Bridge roads as high-risk routes for fatal accidents.

Other hotspots in the central region include the Makutano-Embu road part, Kiriaini-Muranga road section, Nyeri-Nyahururu road, Makongeni along the Thika-Garissa route, and Kiambu-Muthaiga Road.

Meanwhile, blackspots in the Rift Valley region include the Molo GSU Camp in Salgaa, the Timboroa-Burnt Forest Section, the Chepsir-Kipkelion Junction in Sachangwani, the Kericho-Litein Road Section, and the Kericho-Kaitui section.

Nanyuki-Isiolo Junction, Nyeri-Nyahururu Wiyumiririe region, Narok-Mai Mahiu Junction, Kinyinyi region along Narok Road, Katakala along Mulot-Narok Road, and Nakuru-Mau Summit Road were also identified as hot locations.

The government has identified several hotspots in Western Kenya, including the Mbale-Vihiga Road Section, Kakamega Chavakali Road Section, Kakamega-Kisumu-Ilesi Museno Road, Kakamega-Mumias Road at Makunga, and the Kakamega-Webuye-Lubao highway.
