Senator Mobilizes Residents For Ruto Rally On Wednesday
Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi pleaded with his supporters on Tuesday to give President William Ruto a warm welcome during his scheduled visit to the county on Wednesday, January 22, to kick off the construction of a market project.
In a letter dated January 21, the ODM-elected Senator claimed that he would not attend Ruto’s visit to his county because he was not in the country, and instead urged residents to welcome the president with open arms.

“I want to urge our people to accord the President a warm reception to our great county,” he pleaded noting that the project would be beneficial to the community.
Osotsi also stated that he was told about the President’s visit while he was traveling in Europe, but that he was unable to attend on short notice.
“I am currently on a foreign developmental tour in Europe. While here, I have been informed that H.E. President, Dr. William Ruto, will be visiting Vihiga County on Wednesday, January 22, 2025,” he stated.
“Regrettably, I will not be attending this event for the reason stated,” he added.
The Vihiga senator alleged that he was told the president’s visit was to kick off the development of Luanda’s Modern Market.
Senator, who also chairs the County Public Investments and Special Funds Committee, stated that the market would promote regional business.
“The market project is highly welcomed considering that Luanda is a key market in the Western region since it serves Vihiga, Kakamega, Kisumu, Siaya, and Busia Counties as well as being a key gateway of trade between Kenya and Uganda,” he reasoned.
While acknowledging that market development is a devolved duty, Osotsi praised the national government for working with Vihiga County to build the Lunda Market.

“It is instructive to note this project is the culmination of concerted efforts by the County Government of Vihiga through an official request made to the National Government on May 2, 2024,” he elaborated.
The ODM-elected Senator also raised his worries, urging those involved in the market’s construction to expedite its completion and ensure that it benefits local residents.
“I hope the two levels of government will ensure the construction of the said market takes into account the emerging concerns to ensure humane treatment of all affected traders, minimal losses, and fairness in the allocation of new stalls among other concerns,” he stated.
At the same time, Osotsi asked the President to help accelerate the projects he initiated during his previous visit to Vihiga County.
