Kenya has advanced in African and global military statistics, placing 11th in Africa and 83rd overall.

Ten African countries were found to have higher military capabilities than Kenya in a recent worldwide evaluation.

According to Global Firepower’s annual evaluation, Kenya is ranked 11th in Africa in terms of military strength, with Egypt dominating the continent.

Algeria, Nigeria, South Africa, and Ethiopia are Africa’s top four strongest military bases, with Angola, Morocco, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Sudan, and Libya all in the top ten.

Despite being in the top ten in Africa, South Africa’s recent fall in air and naval power has resulted in a drop in continental standing.

On a worldwide scale, Kenya has achieved significant progress, currently ranking 83rd among the world’s strongest militaries.

Egypt’s top rating is unsurprising given that the country is the most powerful in the Arab world and has massively invested in military spending to combat terrorism and regional instability.

The annual assessment of global military forces considers aspects such as financial capacity, logistical resources, and strategic placement in its rankings.

However, the strength of a nation’s military potential is essentially determined by the size of its armed forces.

Egypt, for example, has over 400,000 active personnel who support modern fighter jets (including F-16s) as well as advanced naval and missile weapons.

Countries with Africa’s weakest military include Benin, the Central African Republic, Somalia, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Gabon, Senegal, and Burkina Faso.

As African nations compete to strengthen their military forces, Kenya has a chance to get into the top ten rankings following President William Ruto’s recent pledge to improve the capabilities of the Kenya Navy.

The government’s policy includes investing in sophisticated technology and modernizing the navy’s fleet, as well as improving navy personnel’s capabilities and operating capacity.

“Our singular focus will be on maintaining a high state of readiness to ensure that we respond swiftly and effectively to an increasingly dynamic security environment,” the President said.

The president spoke at Mombasa’s Kenya Navy Base, Mtongwe, to commemorate the navy’s 60th anniversary.
