Gachagua’s Formally Dismissed As UDA Deputy Party Leader – ORPP
The Registrar of Political Parties has published a notice removing former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua as the UD deputy party leader.
In a gazette notice dated January 23, Anne Nderitu designated Deputy President Kithure Kindiki as the UDA’s deputy party head.
“Any person with written submissions concerning the intended change by the political party shall within seven (7) days from the date of this publication, make their written submissions to the Registrar of Political Parties,” the notice reads.
This Monday, UDA told its members and the wider public that it intended to formally remove Gachagua as deputy party leader and replace him with his successor, Kindiki.
The notification came just days after the ruling party announced its merger with the Amani National Congress (ANC) and appointed some of its officials to its leadership.
The notification issued on Thursday was signed by national chairperson Cecily Mbarire and Secretary General Hassan Omar.

“Pursuant to and in accordance with Section 20 (2) of the Political Parties Act, 2011, the United Democratic Alliance Party notifies its members and the general public of the following changes in the office of the Deputy Party Leader on an interim basis,” the notice dated January 22.
Gachagua stepped down as the party’s deputy leader after the registrar of parties confirmed the decision passed by the UDA’s national executive committee (NEC) on November 11.
The NEC decided to remove Gachagua based on the UDA constitution, which states that the deputy party leader must also serve as deputy president.
Gachagua’s impeachment on October 17 for various reasons, including insubordination to party boss President William Ruto, resulted in his removal as the party’s second-in-command.

Ruto appointed Kindiki as deputy president right after the Senate decisively upheld the National Assembly’s vote to impeach the former Mathira MP.
However, Gachagua went to court to dispute his impeachment.
This Thursday, a three-judge bench will hear the matter in which over 30 petitions have been filed.
In October of last year, UDA officials hinted that if the court upheld Gachagua’s impeachment, the party would consider removing him entirely.
