‘Don’t Threaten Us!’ – Kindiki Hits Back At Gachagua Ove One-Term Presidency Claims
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has dismissed their political adversaries’ one-term presidency proposal as impractical and insignificant.
During a consultative discussion with Tharaka Nithi leaders, Kindiki questioned why making Ruto a one-term president would thrill some leaders given his already impressive record.
“I saw some guys saying how their singular motivation is to make William Ruto a one-term President. Really? And then? How can that be your motivation as a leader?” he posed.
His speech was a clear response to his predecessor, impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who spoke on Monday at the DAP-K headquarters unveiling.

He promised to cooperate with all Kenyans to oppose Ruto’s administration and make his re-election in the 2027 general election unlikely.
“We shall be selfless as a team and let us not approach these elections with a predetermined mindset that it has to be my way. We need to sit down and do proper arithmetic so that we do not fight each other,” he affirmed.
“This journey is not for the faint-hearted, we do not have money to buy fear but with the great leaders, we will work together and unveil a national movement.”
According to the Kindiki, President Ruto is one of five Kenyans who have been privileged to occupy the highest office in the land.
He stated that many leaders have unsuccessfully sought the presidency. He stated that even if he is not elected for a second term, he will have changed the lives of people in the country.
“We will have transformed the lives of our people in health, economy, education, housing and job creation for our young people, he will have achieved his mission,” he asserted.
“Don’t threaten us with a one-term presidency. That is cheap.”

Gachagua, backed by Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and DAP-K’s Eugene Wamalwa, among others, urged Kenyans to stand up to Ruto, accusing him of being “intolerant” and “dictatorial”.
Gachagua rebelled against several of the President’s proposed policies, including unpopular tax increases, which ignited violent nationwide street protests.
“The government he leads is a one-man show; he wants his way and all those ministers you see there are flower girls. I was the only one who could stand up to him and say, hey boss, this can’t work,” he said.
Ruto has warned opposition leaders that 2027 is a time for development and that “when the time comes, he will battle it out with them.”
