Family Finds Second Missing Mlolongo Man Dead At City Mortuary

A second body of the missing Mlolongo four was discovered dead late on Thursday, January 30 at the Nairobi Funeral Home, formerly known as City Mortuary.

Martin Mwau’s body was located following an investigation.

On December 16 and 17, 2024, four men from Mlolongo in Machakos County went missing: Justus Mutumwa, Martin Mwau, Karani Mwema, and Stephen Mbisi Kavingu.

The four were allegedly kidnapped by masked men who claimed to be police officials.

According to reports, Martin disappeared on December 17, 44 days ago.

The revelation raises new doubts about his disappearance. There are no facts about his current physical state.

However, a post-mortem is expected to be performed to determine his cause of death and aid in the investigation into his whereabouts.

Earlier today, the body of Justus Mutumwa was recovered in the same mortuary. According to the family, Mutumwa went missing on December 16, 2024.

Mutumwa’s lawyer, Dan Maanzo, told the press that he was found dead in Ruai and that his body had been taken to the City Mortuary.

According to the lawyer, Mutumwa’s body was discovered while legal proceedings to determine his whereabouts were still underway.

“A quick check of fingerprints has confirmed that it is him,” Maanzo told the media at the Milimani Law Courts.

According to the family, his body was gathered from Ruai and delivered to the mortuary on December 18, 2024, just two days after he went missing.

This raises questions about why the police took so long to locate him, despite public outcry and pressure.

The National Police Service (NPS) has stated that it was not engaged in the purported abduction of the four and is simply investigating the matter.

After a lengthy battle, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Mohammed Amin denied taking the four into custody and maintained the police had no involvement in their disappearance.

Kanja told the court, “Your honour, we have none of the subjects. I want to confirm before this court that we have none of them.”

When the DCI boss joined the stand, he, too, emphasized that the police do not have the missing persons but are conducting investigations to ascertain their whereabouts.

“I wish to confirm that the investigations are still on course, and at an appropriate time, the files will be forwarded to the ODPP,” Amin stated.

The discovery of Mwau’s remains raises further worries about the circumstances surrounding the trio’s disappearance and murders.

Their case has been faced with repeated denials by major police agencies about their location.
