Outgoing ANC Officials Confirm Mudavadi Will Run For President

Outgoing Amani National Congress (ANC) officials have encouraged their followers not to be concerned about the party’s impending merger with President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance.

During a meeting at the Bomas of Kenya, ANC Deputy Party Leader and Lamu Governor Issa Timamy revealed that the merger was strategic, as Prime Minister CS Musalia Mudavadi plans to run for president in 2032.

“Let me say this we are taking this direction because our eyes are on 2032,” he noted.

According to Mudavadi’s friends, their most important merger decision was influenced by succession politics.

The party reached an arrangement with the UDA to ensure President Ruto’s reelection in 2027, in exchange for the UDA party supporting Musalia Mudavadi as President in 2032.

Omboko Milemba, the outgoing secretary general and Emuhaya Lawmaker, stated that the road to 2032 is rocky and that the merger with UDA was intended to make things easier for the soft-spoken Mudavadi.

“Our eyes are on 2032, the decision we have taken is because the road is bumpy when you go there do not be worried because we are eying 2032,” Omboko told the NDC.

Outgoing party chair Kelvin Lunani, for his part, urged the delegates to join their UDA counterparts in campaigning for Ruto’s re-election in their own backyard.

“When we join hands we become stronger; this merger will form government in 2027 and beyond,” he said.

The ANC party effectively agreed to have all of its assets and liabilities transferred to the UDA party.
