HEARTBREAKING: Dogs Maul Missing Cancer Patient A Kilometre From Hospital

Eldoret police are investigating an incident in which a cancer patient who went missing from a hospital was found mauled by dogs.

Uasin Gishu police chief Benjamin Mwanthi stated that the 53-year-old man patient with throat cancer was admitted to the hospital but went missing on January 21, 2025.

The hospital and his family informed the police that the patient had gone missing, prompting a search effort.

Mwanzi said the patient’s body, which had been attacked by dogs, was later discovered in a woody area near a river that flows near the hospital.

According to the police chief, the patient was identified as a resident, and the incident is still being investigated.

“DCI officers are still investigating the incident but the patient was identified and his family is aware,”  said Mwanthi.

According to police, the patient removed hospital garments, changed into his clothes, and walked out of the hospital during the night.

Mwanthi stated that DCI officials were handling the matter and that the body had been sent to a nearby morgue.

The body was discovered with several portions eaten by stray dogs, and it was almost completely decomposed.

It is unclear how the patient exited from the hospital’s backyard and why hospital security officers failed to detect him as he went away.

”We have recorded statements at the hospital to establish what happened and if there was any negligence,” said Mwanthi.

After the body was discovered, his family was summoned to the scene before police transported it to the morgue.
