Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has stated that he will accept the results of the African Union Commission chairman elections, which are set for Saturday.

Raila is running for the AUC chairmanship, and the election will take place on Saturday, February 15, during the ordinary session of the Heads of State meeting in Addis Ababa.

Raila told ODM leaders and women supporters at Bomas of Kenya on Monday that if he does not win the election, he will humbly return home.

“In God’s grace, I know I shall win, if we go through we shall be winners and if we lose we shall still be winners,” Raila told his supporters.

Women from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) had assembled in Bomas for a special prayer session prior to the AUC elections.

The gathering, attended by clerics, key ODM officials, and other visitors, sought divine intervention for Raila’s win before he left for Addis Abeba.

“The elections will be held next Saturday. If I win, that’s okay; if not, that’s also fine—I will come back home,” Raila told his supporters.

“I’m very grateful for your prayers,” Raila told the Bomas meeting saying he is ready for the job.

As Moussa Faki’s stint as AUC chair comes to an end, Raila is counting on African leaders’ backing to obtain the job.

On Monday, he stated that some African leaders encouraged him to run for the position, believing he could assist address the continent’s difficulties.

“They told me that the problems facing Kenya are similar to those in many African countries.”
