UASIN GISHU: Teacher Walks Many Kilometres To Save Pupil

A teacher in Ngenyilel East, Uasin Gishu County, has amazed many by carrying a Grade 4 student who collapsed after an inter-school athletics tournament for four km.

What was intended to be a routine competition took a dramatic turn when a 10-year-old kid from Ngenyilel Primary School fainted while competing in the 5,000-meter run.

Moments after finishing the tournament at a nearby school, the students and their teacher began their journey home. The pupil fell throughout the voyage.

The teachers, who were on high alert, promptly intervened and provided first aid to the student before transporting him to the hospital.

However, the hospital was too far away, requiring the teacher to call a motorcycle for help.

Unfortunately, the cyclist could not assist because the remaining gasoline levels could not maintain the 5-kilometre trek, forcing the instructor to carry the student on his back for the remainder of the journey.

Speaking to the press, one of the locals who watched the incident claimed that it occurred in the evening when the kids were returning from the sports tournament.

“The pupils had gone to an athletics competition at Ngenyilel Primary School. From Ngenyilel to Murugusi is five kilometres, so while heading home in the evening after running 5,000 metres, he fainted,” narrated a witness.

“The boy fainted because he was exhausted. We attempted to call a motorcyclist, but the rider declined, claiming that he didn’t have enough fuel,” he added.

Despite the urgency of the situation, the instructor carried the student for four kilometers before the school administration dispatched a helper to assist with the final one kilometre.

While such acts of generosity occasionally go unnoticed, his act of love has captured the attention of Kenyans who have since praised him for his courage, resilience and acts of kindness.

“A motorbike came when the teacher was approaching the destination and helped them cover the remaining distance, the pupil received medical attention and is now doing fine,” recalled a villager.

“That situation has made us happy as residents, the teacher carried our hearts and we want recognition for that teacher for the good care of our children.”
