‘I’ll Announce My Next Political Move Soon!’ – Raila Tells Supporters
Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has stated that he will confer with his ODM party on the next steps.
Raila, speaking on Monday at State House in Mombasa following talks with President William Ruto, stated that he will soon meet with his fans and friends to confer before deciding his next political move.
“I am going to consult widely and in due course we are going to announce our way forward,” he said.
The conversations between the two leaders centered on the recently concluded AUC elections, in which Raila lost to Djibouti’s Mahamoud Ali Youssouf after receiving the required 33 votes in the seventh round of voting.
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki was also there.
The ODM leader also claimed that his party was willing to engage with others to achieve national unity.
He also thanked President Ruto for his unwavering support during the campaign, emphasizing that his decision to compete for the seat was personal.

“I want to thank my younger brother Ruto who stood by me. He never asked me to run, he only came after I made the announcement,” he explained.
“He did support my candidature, he supported me not by word but also by deed. He put up machinery to help the campaign.”
Raila stated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was always open to organize appointments during the campaign.
In his speech, Ruto heaped admiration on him, reaffirming that he was available for all of his assignments to other nations and canvassed his candidacy.
“His candidature brought all Kenyans together from the different political sides,” said Ruto adding that he represented Kenya very well.

He claimed Kenya had the best candidate, who did all necessary to secure the position.
Raila also denied accusations that they spent Sh13 billion on AUC campaigns.
He indicated that the money spent was necessary for transportation to get about, but that they were not living lavishly.
“We were eating what we were being given and many countries were generous and provided accommodation,” he said.
