‘I Will Vie For The Top Position!’ – Karua Makes 2027 Presidential Candidacy Clear
Martha Karua, the People’s Liberation Party leader, has changed her mind about not deputizing anyone again in the presidential election.
Speaking during the launch of her renamed party, Karua stated that, while she may have said that, all leaders must understand the importance of putting the country’s interests first.
She stated that the opposition is forming a united front to confront the Kenya Kwanza administration in the 2027 general elections.
Karua emphasized that the candidate would be chosen in a transparent manner that they could all agree on.
The former Justice Minister stated she does not have to be on the ticket with whoever is chosen, but she is ready and eager to offer her full support.
Karua stated that the purpose is to liberate the country from the existing leadership.

“Each one of us must subordinate their interest to the interest of the nation. Whoever gets selected as a candidate through a transparent method shall all queue behind that person,” Karua stated.
“I may have said I don’t want to be deputy, but that doesn’t mean I cannot support another candidate,” she said.
“I don’t have to be on that ticket, but I will put my 100% commitment, if I am not the candidate, to deliver victory to Kenyans. We must liberate ourselves from economic oppression.”
Unity is no longer a choice but a necessity. We must come together, rise above divisions and push for a country and future that works for all. #UniteLiberate #PLPKenya pic.twitter.com/PWoBk3osxu

Among those who attended the occasion were former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), and Eugene Wamalwa (DAP-K).
In January, Karua, the head of Narc Kenya at the time, stated that she would not deputize anyone in the 2027 general elections.
Karua stated that she will only run for the country’s top position.
She stated that 2022 marked the last time she played second fiddle to anyone and that she is done.

“To my friend Senator Daniel Karaba, at this level, I cannot become anyone’s deputy again,” Karua had said.
“If there’s any prayer you’re making, it is for me to get the president’s seat that I will vie for in the next election. That one (running mate) I got done with in 2022.
“I did my work (asking for votes) thoroughly. If you, my supporter, haven’t done your work thoroughly, I have gone past that stage. Just wait, I will ask for your vote, and I will vie for the top position,” she said on Friday.
Karua emphasized that she will continue to collaborate with like-minded individuals to bolster the country’s opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
