‘Don’t Blame Us, Focus On Your Purpose!’ – Ichung’wah Tells The Clergy
Kimani Ichung’wah, the majority leader of the National Assembly, has reiterated the importance of religious leaders focusing on their spiritual obligations rather than politics.
Ichung’wah grieved that certain clergy members had abandoned their roles and turned into politicians.
He notably mentioned the recent appeal by some religious leaders for the release of debt owing to faith-based health facilities by the defunct National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF).
“When money was being stolen from NHIF, we never heard the protesting about our rights or about that debt,” he said.
“It is now when the new Social Health Authority (SHA) has inherited that debt that we are starting to hear these noises.”

The Kikuyu MP, speaking at the burial of former Baringo Senator William Cheptumo at his Bartabwa house in Baringo, urged churches to reconsider their roles and return to that goal.
“I pray and hope that our churches will focus on their true purpose.”
President William Ruto was among the leaders that attended the ceremony. Cheptumo died on February 15, at the age of 57.
Other attendees included Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, and his Senate counterpart Amason Kingi, as well as Cabinet Secretaries and elected officials.
Wetang’ula reiterated the attitude, advising clergy to refrain from political activity in order to maintain the church’s holiness as a place for leaders to seek advice.
He also stressed the importance of unity in overcoming the nation’s challenges, and urged officials to focus on solutions rather than blaming one another.

“When there is a problem the answer is to look for a solution, not to blame others, because after the blame, the problem will not go…challenges will always be there,” he said.
This came as he encouraged churches to continue praying for the country.
Several leaders who spoke remembered Cheptumo as polite, humble, and dedicated to serving his people.
“He nurtured us as young leaders and guided us to be who we are today,” said Senate majority leader Aaron Cheruiyot, adding he was hardworking and respectful.
