Ruto Hits Back At Standard’s ‘Cunning Ruto’ Headline
President William Ruto responded on Sunday to a recent newspaper headline describing him as a cunning leader.
During a church service at Jesus Winner Ministry in Roysambu, Nairobi, Ruto claimed that the Standard Newspaper headline ‘Cunning Ruto’ was influenced by current political happenings.
He argues that the opposition attempted to arrange his downfall, but he overcame the hurdles.
“If you read today’s newspaper (the Standard), the headline states that Ruto is very cunning. I want to tell them that am not as cunning as they think,” Ruto stated.

“This is the grace of God that is leading me. We believe in God. Because I escaped the traps that they set, they say that am cunning.
He continued: “That is not the case, I am just doing what Abraham did in the bible. He trusted in God even when things were tough. It is not what you are saying, it is God’s favour.”
According to Ruto, certain people—who he did not name—hoped to see him fail, but he overcame their attempts and emerged victorious.
He added, “They set up various political traps for us, targeting us with the hope that if we didn’t stumble here, we would fall elsewhere. But we managed to escape all of it.”
The Standard’s Sunday issue included the headline “Cunning Ruto,” highlighting his present political maneuvers, including early campaigning, as the country prepares for the 2027 general elections.

The subheadline further stated, “That the country is in a quandary is obvious. However, the President has become an expert at using a smoke screen, hoping the problems will fade away. He has tried to explain himself and engage in early campaigns to divert attention, but the issues continue to pile up.”
According to the Standard, Ruto has mastered the art of distracting Kenyans’ attention away from the various scandals and crises that have afflicted his administration over the last two years.
It also stated that crises have affected various areas, including health, education, security, energy, transportation, and diplomacy, with some being severe enough to potentially destabilize the government.
“The head of state has perfected the art of generating “bombshells” that capture public attention, even as significant events unfold unnoticed around them,” it added.

Meanwhile, Ruto donated Ksh20 million to the church, dismissing his detractors who have criticised him for his religious donations.
Furthermore, the President mentioned an event in which the Catholic church leadership in Nairobi, led by Philip Anyolo, returned the money he had provided to one of their parishes.
He added that he had read the Bible and could not locate any passages where the Holy Book urged that bishops return money offered to God.
“I am an ardent reader of the Bible, I have tried looking for where the Holy book says that when you give to God, it is returned to you by the Bishop. Is there a place like that? Have you come across it?” he questioned.
