2 Nairobi County Officers Involved In KPLC Garbage Dumping Interdicted – Sakaja

Following an illegal dumping incident near Stima Plaza, Nairobi Governor Sakaja Johnson has interdicted two top revenue department workers.

Sakaja criticized the incident in front of the Committee on Administration and Internal Security at County Hall, saying it did not reflect the county’s principles or policies.

“Two officers have been interdicted following the illegal dumping of garbage because this is not what we stand for. On behalf of the staff, I apologise. That should not have happened,” Sakaja said.

The interdicted policemen were suspected of directing illegal dumping.

Douglas Kanja, Inspector General of the National Police Service, acknowledged that criminal investigations began immediately following the incident.

“I was in Nigeria at the time, but we initiated investigations immediately after the illegal dumping was reported,” Kanja said.

Mohamed Amin, Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), said that Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) officials reported the incident to Parklands Police Station after it occurred near Stima Plaza.

“We launched investigations following the report at Parklands Police Station, and several people have been arrested for questioning,” Amin said.

He added that illegal waste dumping is one of the topics being investigated.

“From our perspective, it was unfortunate that the garbage was dumped illegally. We will conduct thorough investigations and prosecute those responsible,” the DCI affirmed.

The three agreed that better approaches to dealing with such occurrences should be implemented in the future to successfully fix the issue.
