Chaos, Drama Erupt At Kirinyaga Burial As Bishop Refuses Speeches From Politicians
On Tuesday, there was drama during a burial event in Kirinyaga attended by MPs and leaders loyal to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Tensions rose when a clergyman refused to give the leaders an opportunity to speak.
As the situation worsened, the pastor was forced to leave the celebration, unable to control the escalating conflict.
Tensions rose swiftly when Kirinyanga Women Representative Njeri Maina and other leaders, including local Senator Kamau Murango, stormed the podium, demanding the right to speak to the audience.
The pastor, on the other hand, stayed firm, refusing to allow the leaders to address the mourners, who were becoming increasingly impatient as they chanted.
“You must respect our leaders and allow them to address us,” some of the mourners who had stormed the main dias from where the pastor was demanded.
Attempts by female pastors present at the gathering to mediate between the parties proved useless, as their pleas for the problem to be addressed gently went unheard.
Soon after, the pastor was compelled to stage a walkout as mourners yelled at him for his actions.
They also followed him as some cheered and recorded brief video snippets of the visibly enraged pastor.

“Go away, go,” some women shouted in the local Kikuyu language while escorting the pastor who respectfully obliged and went into his car.

When questioned by the media about why he refused to give the leaders a platform, the pastor explained that he had given them a chance, only for them to exploit it to politicize.
“This is a burial ceremony and is not a political gathering. We are not fighting with them, we have honoured them and given them an opportunity to speak to the people,” the pastor said
“Instead of condoling with the family, they were like settling scores. This was not good and is not allowed,” he added.
The pastor also denied suggestions that he was operating in the government’s best interests by targeting former DP leaders.
