Ruto Issues Fresh Orders To IEBC Selection Panel As Vacant Seats Pile Up
President William Ruto has urged the body in charge of recruiting nominees for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairperson and Commissioners to hasten the process.
The Head of State urged the commission to expedite the procedure and allow Malava citizens to vote for their new representative.
He was speaking on Tuesday afternoon at the burial of Malava MP Malulu Injendi.
Ruto reaffirmed his support for Malava locals, stating that his administration will assure uninterrupted service delivery despite the death of their representative.
He advocated for the quick reformation of the election commission.
“I want to promise that I will not abandon you, we are together in this and for the respect of the former MP Injendi, who was my friend, I will walk with you to the end,” Ruto told the residents.
“Now that I had already chosen the panel that is tasked with reconstituting the IEBC, I urge those involved to expedite the process so that we can have a new IEBC so that people of Malava can choose their MP,” he added.

President Ruto went on to express his willingness to collaborate with the new MP who would shortly be elected by Malava citizens.
His instruction comes less than a month after he announced the formation of a nine-member team to oversee the electoral commission’s reformation.
In a gazette notice dated January 27, Ruto appointed Lindah Gakii, Oloo Adams, James Misati, Nicodemus Bore, Koki Muli, Andrew Kipkoech, Nelson Makanda, Caroline Kituku, and Fatuma Saman to the task force.
Since their appointment, the panel members have advertised the open posts and started assembling a list of applicants for shortlisting.
On February 18, the committee’s chairperson, Nelson Makanda, told Kenyans that the panel was committed to a free and fair process.

MP Injendi died on February 17 after spending weeks in the Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi.
