The news of the MCA’s reunion with his family traveled quickly, bringing neighbours and friends who gathered to the house.
He was eventually transferred to a Nairobi hospital for tests, according to his family. A mob gathered outside his Nairobi home to celebrate his return.
It is unclear what motivated his purported kidnapping. The inquiry into the incident is underway.
Nairobi police chief George Sedah said he had heard of the MCA’s return. He stated they’d talk to him later.
“Alhamdulillah! I am happy to have received the good news of Hon. Yussuf Hussein’s safe return and reunion with his family after months of uncertainty,” he stated.
“Since his disappearance in September last year, the people of Wajir have endured a painful period of anxiety, prayers, and unwavering hope for his safe return.”
“The news of his reunion brings immense relief and joy to our community. It is a moment of gratitude and renewed hope for his family and all those who stood by them during these difficult times,” he added.
Wajir County Governor Ahmed Abdullahi also confirmed the news, noting that he was pleased to hear about the MCA’s safe return.

Abdullahi, who is also the Chairperson of the Council of Governors (CoG), noted that the people of Wajir had gone through a difficult period of anxiety, prayers, and steadfast hope for his safe return since his disappearance.
The county manager further noted that the news of the MCA’s reunion provides enormous relief and joy to the community.
Wajir County Woman Representative Fatuma Abdi Jehow also used her official social media accounts to react to Yusuf’s return.
The woman MP thanked God as she welcomed the MCA back home after a long absence.

“No words but to say Alhamdullilah! Welcome home our MCA Hon. Yussuf Tolfiyow,” she stated.
Eldas Member of Parliament (MP) Adan Keynan confirmed the allegations, thanking God on his official Facebook account for Yusuf’s safe return.
Keynan, Yusuf’s relative, can also be heard addressing a gathering assembled at the MCA’s home in their native tongue.
Yusuf, who is also the Minority Leader of the Wajir County Assembly, went missing in Nairobi at night on Enterprise Road while on his way to Pangani from South C.
Activist Bob Njagi, one of three people abducted in Kitengela in August of last year, said on February 5, 2025, that the MCA was detained in the same location as him.
In an interview with one of the local TV stations, Njagi revealed that at the time of his release, the MCA, who had been gone for about six months, was still in the hands of their captors.
“We may laugh about this matter sometimes, but I want to say here that the MCA for Wajir County who was allegedly found murdered was actually in the room next to where I was… I had the opportunity of peeping through the keyhole, and I saw him,” Njagi said.

In an emotional and dramatic confession, Njagi claimed that the MCA was brought in late at night on Friday, September 13, 2024, and locked up next to his chamber.
Douglas Kanja, the Inspector General of Police, denied that the police had abducted the MCA.
“So far, after the report was made, we have carried out our investigations, and it remains active,” he noted.
“We have not gotten additional information on his (Hussein’s) whereabouts. We are still appealing to the members of the public with information that can assist us to come forward.”
