Speaker Wetangula Breaks Silence On Raila-Ruto MoU Signing Absence
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has stated that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is a beneficial development for the country.
Speaking during a church service in Elgeyo Marakwet on Sunday, the speaker emphasized that the meeting that resulted in the accord was first convened by him.
Although he did not attend the official MoU signing event last week, he was fully involved in the process.
“Recently, we saw our president had joined forces with ODM leader and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga. In some newspapers, I saw them questioning where Wetangula and Musalia (Mudavadi, PCS) were (during the signing),” Wetangula stated.
“I want you to know that the committee of our leadership in our team that sits to decide these heavy things, the convener is Papa wa Roma (Wetangula). We want a united Kenya because Kenya is a unitary state.”

On Friday, March 7, President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga signed the Memorandum of Understanding, which establishes a collaboration between their parties.
The Kenya Kwanza-ODM Framework Agreement was signed at Nairobi’s Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) at a ceremony attended by numerous political leaders from both sides.
Although Wetang’ula was not present at the signing ceremony, he was in Kimilili, Trans Nzoia County, where he dedicated an 8-classroom building at Daraja Mungu Comprehensive School in Kibingei Ward.
He had been invited by Didmus Barasa, the Kimilili MP.
On the same day, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi attended the requiem liturgy for the late former IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati.
When discussing the accord, Wetang’ula emphasized that significant choices in their political camp are taken as a group.
He emphasized the necessity for leaders to prioritize the country and collaborate for a better future.

“The UDA-ODM pact is a step in the right direction for Kenya. A united Kenya is a stronger Kenya,” he said.
“The agreement between President Ruto and Raila Odinga is not about political rivalry but it is about dialogue instead of division.”
Wetang’ula, therefore, urged all leaders and citizens to embrace unity saying that working together is the only way to build a better nation.
“We are one people, and the future demands that we work together for the good of our country,” he added.
