‘How Many More?’ – Ruto Breaks Silence On ‘El Chapo’, Kasongo Nicknames

On Thursday, March 13, President William Ruto spoke out against Kenyans’ continued use of nicknames for him, especially after they recently dubbed him as “El Chapo,” questioning whether the tendency would ever end.

Ruto highlighted the different nicknames that trended nationwide, including “Hustler,” “Survivor,” “Zakayo,” and “Kasongo,” with some Kenyans even creating chants and songs.

The Head of State was addressing in Dagoretti during his most recent Nairobi region development tour.

“To the people of Nairobi, let me ask you, aren’t you going to finish me with these names? You began with hustler, and then you said survivor, which was followed by Zakayo. Later it became Kasongo,” Ruto stated.

“With these names, how many more are you going to add? Are you going to add another, or are they enough?” Ruto quipped, enjoying the light moment with the crowd.

This comes after the President was dubbed “El Chapo” last week for donating money to acquire a chapati-making machine capable of producing one million chapatis per day for a Nairobi school.

The offer came after Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja asked Ruto for the machine to supplement his ‘Dishi na County’ school feeding program at St. Teresa Girls Secondary School in Mathare.

The moniker immediately became popular online, with Kenyans creating memes and even using artificial intelligence to conjure visuals of millions of chapatis in a factory.

The nickname, which appeared to be intended to mock the President, allowed Kenyans to appreciate the humour in Ruto’s pledge.

This is despite the fact that the country is dealing with difficult economic circumstances, developmental hurdles, and a slew of other issues.

Many Kenyans took aim online at Ruto’s habit of presenting what many would consider minor accomplishments as huge milestones, accusing him of skewed priorities.

The dissatisfied Kenyans drew parallels with leaders in other nations, such as Japan and China, who establish projects that provide major growth to their people, while Kenya falls behind with its ‘unserious’ programs.

Ruto has previously chastised Kenyans for using nicknames like Zakayo and Kasongo, claiming that he was no longer troubled by them.

While admitting the two titles, the Head of State claimed that his critics had nicknamed him Kasongo due to his exceptional intelligence.

According to him, he was no longer concerned about unfavorable criticism as long as he served the reason for which he was elected by Kenyans.
