KFS Guards Disarmed After Fatally Shooting Kuresoi Resident

Two Kenya Forest Service guards were disarmed after reportedly shooting a guy in the Kiptunga forest near Kuresoi, Nakuru County.

The man was allegedly slain during a confrontation after being discovered carrying a large amount of firewood that he was suspected of having taken from the forest in Kuresoi South.

Police claimed the incident occurred on Tuesday, March 1, in the evening.

It caused tension in the neighborhood, with residents expressing alarm about such instances. Such previous cases have generated violent protests.

According to police spokesman Michael Muchiri, the alleged KFS official was patrolling the area with a colleague when they discovered two guys carrying firewood from the forest.

Firewood collecting is prohibited in the forest as part of measures to combat deforestation.

The discovery sparked a confrontation, and according to Muchiri, the deceased attempted to attack the officers with a sharp knife, resulting in the shooting.

As part of the investigation into the incident, police arrived at the scene and seized the KFS personnel’s AK47 rifles.

The body was transferred to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

In Olpusimoru, Narok County, a 24-year-old man died after being struck by a club during a quarrel with a relative over a plot of land.
