Court Upholds Governor Mwangaza’s Senate Impeachment
Meru Governor Kawaira Mwangaza has suffered a setback as the High Court upheld her impeachment in the Senate.
Justice Bahati Mwamuye affirmed the Senate’s decision to remove her from office in a ruling issued on Friday.
Justice Mwamuye ruled that the petition did not satisfy the level required to dismiss the impeachment, and thereby authorized a gazette notice announcing her removal from office.
Unless Mwangaza obtains an order suspending the High Court verdict in the Court of Appeal, Meru Deputy Governor Isaac Mutuma M’Ethingia would take over as Governor.
