DIPLOMACY HURDLE: Sudan Bans Kenyan Products Importation
Sudan’s government has formally banned the importation of Kenyan products.
The Ministry of Trade and Supply issued a directive on March 11, 2025, instructing all parties involved to carry it out.
“The import of all products coming from the State of Kenya through all ports, crossings, airports and outlets is suspended, effective from this date until further notice,” Acting Minister Omar Ahmed Mohamed Ali said.
“All concerned parties must implement the decision.”

The decision followed a Cabinet resolution about Kenya’s involvement in Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
The Sudanese Sovereign Council also accuses Nairobi of supporting the RSF and its allies.
“Based on Cabinet Resolution No. (129) of 2024 AD, and in accordance with the powers stipulated in Cabinet Resolution No. (104) of 2021 AD, and based on the recommendation of the committee formed by the Sovereignty Council to deal with the State of Kenya for hosting the Rapid Support Militia and its allies and sponsoring their activities and meetings, and in order to preserve Sudan’s supreme interests and confirm its sovereignty and protect its national security.”
The RSF and its allies agreed to form a unity government in the war-torn North African nation.
The deal was signed following rigorous four-day negotiations in Kenya by key stakeholders who met in Nairobi.
The Sudanese government is accusing Kenya of hostility for allowing the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) to hold their activities at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).

Sudan said in a statement that Kenya’s actions violate the ideals of good neighborliness.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that this also violates Kenya’s pledges not to tolerate enmity toward Sudan on its territory.
“Hosting leaders of the terrorist RSF militia and allowing them to conduct political and propaganda activities constitutes an endorsement of and complicity in these heinous crimes,” Sudan said.
“Equally, this action by the Kenyan government not only violates the principles of good neighbourliness but also contravenes the pledges Kenya has made at the highest levels not to allow hostile activities against Sudan to be carried out on its soil. It is, therefore, tantamount to an act of hostility against the entire Sudanese people.”
