LOOTALL: Ruto’s Nairobi Tour Marred By Robbery, Chaos And Death

A presidential visit is expected to pique the interest of countrymen in meeting with their president one-on-one and discussing national issues.

However, this is not the case with President Ruto.

Nairobi residents in the Eastlands neighborhood had a rough day on Friday during President William Ruto’s visit, as goons took advantage of the moment to attack them and steal their valuables.

For the past week, the president has been touring Nairobi County in an effort to solidify his base and rally support for his UDA party.

The visits come after he formed a political alliance with Raila Odinga’s ODM following the signing of an MoU.

On Friday, the president paid a visit to the Eastlands in Umoja, Kayole, Buruburu, and Makadara, which created more anxiety than good.

Fearing looting, store owners closed their doors.

Schools in the areas he visited shuttered earlier than normal because parents and teachers were concerned about the children’s safety during the visit.

Motorists had a rough day because they were subjected to daylight robbery, with goons forcefully stealing handbags, phones, and the valuables of Kenyans going about their regular business.

In a video shared on X, locals along Makongeni and Jogoo Road witnessed awful events as Ruto’s travels provided an opportunity for goons to hide inside supporters and rob unsuspecting Kenyans.

The goons targeted ladies in particular. They forcibly took their handbags and phones and left on boda bodas.

Others forced their way into matatus that had been held up in traffic owing to the visit and robbed the occupants.

“Most of us are jua kali traders, and we have to open our businesses daily,” a trader in Umoja told NTV.

“However, with these visits that are sparking more fear than good, we are forced to close. Like today, most of us will go home with no cash.”

This is not the first time criminals have taken advantage of Ruto’s visit to pillage and rob Kenyan citizens.

On one extreme occasion, President Ruto’s motorcade caused a sad accident that killed a Briton.

Ruto’s fast-moving convoy struck Edgar Charles Frederick, a 79-year-old Briton visiting his family in Kenya, and left him for dead.

These events have raised questions about the safety and planning of high-profile political engagements by the president.
