NAKURU: Drama As CS Murkomen Confronted After Calling Out Technicians Over Power Outage

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen was agitated after a power outage disrupted his remarks during the official launch of the National Mobile Registration Outreach Programme in Nakuru County.

The blackout, which lasted about a minute, occurred as Murkomen was giving a speech regarding reforms to national identity card issuance.

Murkomen was briefly unable to deliver his speech during the blackout as technicians worked to restore electricity with a backup generator.

While the event’s artists sought to reduce tension through song and dancing, their efforts did nothing to alleviate the CS’s dissatisfaction.

When power was restored, Murkomen was quick to criticize the technical team in charge of controlling the event’s audio and electrical systems for what he saw as a lack of preparation.

“Someone was only given one job—to take care of the audio systems. But they have failed to resolve that,” Murkomen stated.

“Then they will go on social media to claim that the Minister and President have failed,” he added.

“Yet you are also letting us down in small issues like ensuring a public address is smooth. Did you not know power could fail and have a backup in place?”

While encouraging the kids to work professionally, Murkomen appeared to imply that the crew hired to give technical support during the event would not be retained again in the future.

Aside from the power outage, Murkomen’s celebration featured some small drama when a determined woman, later identified as Brian Odhiambo’s mother, went up to the dais to directly confront the CS.

The woman, wearing a T-shirt that read ‘Justice for my son’ was almost assaulted by security, but Murkomen moved them away so she could speak.

After briefly muttering her issues, the woman was encouraged to stay until the CS concluded his lecture, at which point he would address her concerns.

During his statement, Murkomen emphasized that investigations into Brian’s disappearance were nearing completion and that those found guilty would face the full power of the law.

“This is a message directly from the government. Brian did not wrong us in any way that he could just disappear,” Murkomen asserted.

“Even if he had wronged us, he was supposed to be arrested, taken to the police station, and charged in court. As your Interior CS, we will not tolerate situations where any Kenyan can just disappear without being accounted for.”
