MP Wamuchoma Calls Out Gachagua For Spinning ‘Tribal Politics’

Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba has encouraged former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to advocate for all Kenyans, not just the Mount Kenya region.

During an interview with NTV on Monday, March 24, Wamuchomba, a close supporter of the previous DP, stated that Gachagua should be ‘sensitive’ and more sympathetic to various communities in order to demonstrate his national leadership abilities.

Wamuchomba claims to have discussed the problem with Gachagua’many times’.

“He doesn’t have to necessarily agree with me, but if it’s a fact, it is a fact. Rigathi needs to realise that he has the mountain with him; he does not have to talk and punch again about the mountain,” she stated.

“He must also dissociate himself from his campaigns with the mountain connotation because he has fought for the mountain enough,” she said.

Wamuchomba advised the former DP to shift his focus and fight for other ‘lost’ areas in the country, given that he already has the mountain with him.

She also recognized Gachagua’s capacity to press and speak for issues impacting the Mount Kenya region.

“He needs to be seen to be more accommodating to other communities,” she stated.

“The same energy he has been using to fight for the mountain, he needs to use to advocate for people who are evicted in other areas and the forgotten communities of this country. If he really is a national leader, we need to see him fighting for other Kenyans.”

Wamuchomba claimed that fighting for other communities would strengthen the former DP’s campaign for lower taxes and other issues affecting Kenyans.

On March 5, 2025, Wamuchomba and other Gachagua allies were dismissed as chairmen of major committees in the National Assembly.

She was ousted as chair of the Constitutional Oversight and Implementation Committee and assigned to the Members’ Services Committee, a less powerful position.

Nyoro, on the other hand, has declined to say if he supports Gachagua.
