‘They Want To Put Me Down!’ – Babu Owino Claims Gov’t Plans To Arrest Him
Babu Owino, Member of Parliament for Embakasi East, has claimed that officers from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) intend to arrest him.
Addressing the public on Thursday, March 27, the former University of Nairobi (UoN) student leader stated that he had received allegations that EACC detectives were organizing a raid on his office in Donholm, Nairobi, either this week or next.
The outspoken senator stated that he was informed by reliable sources that a meeting of high-ranking government officials was held last week to plot his arrest and compel him into joining the present administration.
According to Owino, the well-planned scheme was also intended to bring him down politically and tarnish his increasing reputation as Kenya’s most popular politician.
The MP alleged that EACC officers planned to arrest him and accuse him of graft in order to silence him for criticizing the government.
“I was reliably informed by very serious sources that this week, EACC detectives were to come at our offices in Donholm, if not this week, then next week, they are to come and arrest me,” he said.

“Their intention is very clear, that we need to put Babu down and tell people there are corruption allegations in Embakasi East,” the legislator added.
Babu Owino also dismissed allegations that he bribed the Auditor General, Nancy Gathungu, in order to alter Embakasi East’s audit findings.

While criticizing the government, the MP urged EACC staff to uphold the rule of law, function independently, and resist harmful influence from the current administration.
“I want to tell the EACC, you are an independent body, do not get involved in this politics, my office is very open, anytime you want to get information on any project you can visit,” the MP stated.
“There is no conflict of interest; none of my companies has been awarded any job in Embakasi East constituency; none of my friends has been awarded any tender in my constituency because there is a laid out procedure of procurement,” he added.
According to Babu Owino, the top-ranked MP in Kenya, he would continue to deliver for his constituents despite constant intimidation from top government officials.
