Head-On Collision Kills 2 People, Leaves Dozens Injured Between School Bus And Matatu

At least two persons were killed and numerous others were injured when a school bus and matatu hit head-on at Kimalany Bridge on the Molo-Keringet road Friday evening.

According to Molo Sub-county Police Commander Timon Odingo, the incident occurred in the evening when a Nissan matatu headed towards Molo collided with a school bus transporting children home to Keringet.

“We are investigating the tragedy,” he said.

According to eyewitnesses, the impact of the crash was so powerful that the matatu’s bonnet became entirely caught inside the bus.

Some of the injured were brought to the sub-county hospital, while others were transported to Nakuru PGH hospital for specialized medical care, as the death toll is expected to grow.

The same location has previously claimed lives, prompting neighbors to express alarm about the condition of the road and urge the road administration to help.

The continuing rains in the area may be to blame for the road’s poor visibility and stability.

Two weeks ago, all 14 people of a Nissan matatu died on the spot when a lorry lost control and collided with it at Migaa near Salgaa on the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway.

The highway, which was a death trap for the majority of motorists, received new interventions, including the construction of a separation grid to segregate traffic.

Following a similar surge in accidents, the government was forced to widen and split lanes along the Ngata bridge-Sobea section in the Rongai sub-county.

Additional procedures are being implemented to address the issues.

The move has significantly reduced the accidents along the stretch, remembered for the worst accident at Sachangwan.

Which has seen a loss of more than 130 people due to a fire incident after locals went to scoop fuel from a tanker that fell.
